Daniel Lawrence (3906464@bellsouth.net)
I'm a new-ish player, but I've developed some real preferences.

Drivers:
Headwind or Long Straight - Reaper-Z 172 (First-run ... colormax feels funny); straight and long, no turns.
Tailwind or Turnover - Leopard 150; easy control for turnovers
Hyzer or low ground cover - Teebird CE 172; quick lift to over ground cover, flies straight, tails dependably, easy hyzer.

Mid:
Straight: Stingray 172; straight and flat ... did I say straight?
Control: Shark 150; just about anything you want it to do, it'll do.

Putt & Approach:
putt and approach outside 40' - JK Aviar-X 172; floopy and true.
approach inside of 40' but too long to putt: TeeBird CE; I throw a hammer-style throw from untimate, and the disc slows itself for the perfect approach every time - drivers work best, i dunno why.

Bag & others:
Bag: old backpack from school; why spend the $???
Retrieval: lacross ball; works like a charm, 85 cents.
Swim trunks: a necessity for courses with nice water hazards ... where do you think I got all my discs?

A Note: I address all my discs with my home address and a phone number. I've found two like that and returned them; I hope that others would do the same. The ones with no name and address ... have mine on them now.

Mike Brenner (wordwriter2002@yahoo.com)
I just moved to Tyler and have yet to play a course here (that will change SOON as I hope to play Lindsey Park this Saturday!), so my bag reflects what I used for DaLaveaga in Santa Cruz, CA. I am sure that a 2 year absence from the sport and totally different style courses here in Texas will result in my bag changing over the next few months.

Driver: Innova Eagle (First Run), 170 yellow: Stable and easy to control (my favorite all time driver was a Banshee 172, but alas, I tried to carry the trees by the road from On Top of The World at DaLaveaga and it most likely is still stuck way up in the top of one of them - searched the trees for hours and found 4 other discs but not my Banshee...lol)

Mid-Range: Innova Shark, 179, blue: Whomever designed the Shark should be in the DG Hall of Fame! You can make this disc do pretty much anything you want.

Putter: Innova Shark, 179, blue: Yep - same disc as the mid-range!

Other discs that see playing time:

Discraft XL, 174, (green, blue, pink, and orange): If I'm not throwing the Eagle well, I will switch to the XL. I just got it about a month before I left California, so I haven't really broken it in yet.

Innova ROC, 167, yellow: In light winds, I use the ROC for long mid-range shots. I also used it for tough shots I didn't want to risk losing my Shark on.

Innova Viper, 171, white: Since I throw left handed, it is great for drives with hard breaks to the right.

Innova Scorpion, 173, orange: Was just starting to learn rollers and was learning on this disc. On DeLaveaga, this was my driver on hole #2 because, for some reason, I could get more controllable lift faster than my other drivers and #2 goes straight uphill at about a 45 (or more!) degree slope right off the tee.

Discs that just hang out and wish I would use them at least once:

Innova Banshee, 175, blue: Got it as a replacement for my other Banshee, but it has just never caught on.

Innova Polaris LS, 173, blue: Good driver, slightly unstable. Never gets thrown much because I always have another driver I like better.

Discraft Cyclone, 172, blue: found it in a ravine. It had no name or number, so it's been in my bag ever since. If anyone wants it, let me know = ) It got a lot of use from someone, but the plastic is still good.

Innova Stingray, 175, yellow: Bought it right before I left Cali. Haven't thrown it enough to be consistent with it.

Innova Shark, 175, white: strictly a backup in case I ever lose my other Shark.

Discraft XL, 174, white: found it while looking for my Banshee. Again, no name or number on the back. Back up for my other XL now.

OK the bag has changed since I last posted. It now looks like a pack of life savers with all the candy in it.

Drivers - CE Leopard 168 long and straight
CE Teebird T/L 171 same as the Leopard
Z-XS 166 longest flying disc I own
Z-Express 171 fast understable driver
Z-Reaper 171 great long hyzer disc and a great sidearm
Z-XTRA 170 mad overstable good for skip shots
SE Valkyrie 168 this disc is fast and straight
XL 175 beat great turnover disc
Stingray 180 my roller disc
Midrange - CE ROC 180 this is sweetest disc I've ever thrown,
goes exactly where you throw it and is indestructible
Z-MRV 176 similar to the CE ROC but slightly more
understable
KC ROC 180 beat midrange good for turnovers
Putters - APX Swirl 175 soft extremely predictable fight, this
thing has saved me on a number of occasions
7X KC Aviar 175 for long approaches and drives
Bag and such - gateway tour bag, about 5 minis, a towel and all those little things you need on the course

My main disc is the xclone, for me it flies real straight. Then to my comet, and finish it off with the aviar.

I like to use Wham-o Frisbees. Actually, anything that will help me cheat...er, I mean, WIN! I MUST win...I play with ONLY whoever is the best. That way..it doesn't MATTER what I use...as long as my partner wins it all!!

I love this site. It has helped me in my selection of discs. It's extremely helpful to see what discs do what for certain players...thank you Mr. Bell.

300 ft. and over

CE Firebird/175/fly-dye/BRAND NEW/+3
-I am a firm believer that a new disc, is a stable disc. I've tested this out to make sure it flies right, and only play with it during tourney play, or money play.

CE Firebird/174/fly-dye/BEAT/+2
-I can go through an entire round and use this disc for every drive. It's broke in enough to hold it's line, but still won't turn-over unless I force it. I love this CE plastic, it holds up forever.

DX Firebird/166/wht/EXTREMELY BEAT/+1
-When new, the DX Firebird is more stable than the SE or CE plastic. Also, this is about 10 grams lighter than what I usually throw. I also believe that heavier discs are more stable. I love the firebird. It has eliminated the need for a mid-range turn-over disc because I have learned how to throw it fore-hand. It works better than most discs for that because it has a bead-less bottom. If you try to use something like a Viper or a Gazelle, it wobbles because of the bead. Aside from being predictable and stable, it is the fastest disc I've every thrown. If I had to pick one disc, it definetly be a Firebird.
I plan on replacing my new CE Firebird, with a brand new DX Firebird.

Z-XS/169/yllw w/cherry festival stamp/BEAT/0
-This is the farthest disc I have. It's not as fast or stable as the Firebird, but I can see why it holds the distance record. It has a nice slow turn, and stays straight throughout it's flight. Also makes a good long-range roller.

300 ft. and in

DX Viper/177/yllw/NEW/+4
-I have tried the Xtremes and Whippets. However, I always revert back to my Vipers. Very stable, and very reliable. They are easy to grip, and break in very nice. It is brand new, and will only be used in tourney play.

DX Viper/180/org/BEAT/+2
-The DX plastic gives a better grip in the rain. The SE and CE plastic is too slick. If it's rainy and windy, I'll throw my Viper at every hole. Thanks to a tip from Cosmo.

DX Cobra/180/yllw/NEW/+1
-I prefer the Cobra over a Roc any day of the week. It has a nice shallow rim, and better glide. Not to mention they break in better. I probably pissed off alot of Roc fans, but hey, whatever works for you right?

DX Cobra/177/wht/EXYREMELY BEAT/-1
-I only use this for a short, tight, straight drive. If I threw back-hand turnovers, I would probably use this. It is under-stable, but predictable. The Cobra above is really just a back-up.

UTILITY DISCS

SE Leopard/170/fly-dye/EXTREMELY BEAT/-3
-I hardly ever air-drive with it, but it is the best under-stable roller on the market. I lost in in a creek for 3 weeks and found it agian. I cleaned it up real good and figured I'd try rollin with it. At the time I was using a Stingray, but this replaced it quickly. I can roll it 350+ ft. easily. It has a nice thick rim, therefore giving you more power in the roll. For instance a Stingray has a thin rim and will loses its momentum when you hit a stick or something. The leopards thick rim allows it to roll right over a stick and keep on truckin.

DX Spider/169/purple/BEAT/+1
-If I'm using this disc alot, then I'm probably having a bad game. This disc is my upshot. It is very controlable. It can be turned-over or hyzered from just about anywhere 200 ft. in. I would have used my SE Super Roc for that, but the Spider has a much wider rim, and a smaller bead making it more comfortable to grip. It also has the feel of SE plastic, kinda like an XD or something, therefore if you get lucky it might stick in the chains from 200 ft!

Aviar softy/150/org/EXTREMELY BEAT/-1
-This was my first putter. Because it's so light, it glides like no other. The stamp is worn off, and I drew a Boogie-Beater face on it. I only use it for touch putts.

PUTTERS

DX Rhyno/170/org/NEW/+2
-I love the Rhyno. The thumtrac is so comfortable. It's stable, and doesn't have much glide, but I play on that. Used for hyzer putts.

SE Soft Rhyno/171/BEAT/+1
-This plastic sticks in the chains!!! I'll swear by it until the day I die. It sticks better than any plastic on the market. The Omega SS might stick a little bit better, but I haven't tried it yet. Everything that they say about this putter is true. If you hit the basket, there's a good chance it will stop instead of roll way the heck out. It has shaved a couple strokes of my game because I can go for it, and not worry about the consequences.

Elite APX/173/fly-dye/BEAT/0
-I used to putt with this exclusively. That was until I got my Rhynos. Now it is used for turn-over putts and turbos. Also it just doesn't stick as well as the SE Rhyno plastic. I also tried out an APX Swirl and didn't like it at all. It didn't glide as well as the elite, and chipped easily.

MISC.
-towels,tennis balls, markers for that hole in one shot, sandpaper, swiss army knife, mini, advil, papers, lighters, and a baggie for my cigarette butts.
*Do use all a favor and DON'T LITER! If I catch you in Fort Wayne IN littering in my park...I'll kick your ass! On that note, if you ain't a litter-bug, and want to play in Ft. Wayne, e-mail me. LATERS

I have a kc gazelle, eagle, and a cheetah. i am a huge fan of the leopards, i have a champion edition leopard and a special edition leopard. for mid range shots i have a stratus and a stingray. i mostly use the stingray for rolling. i have a whippet 150 class for overhand and thumber throw. i have a tye dye APX from discraft that i use for approach and most of my puts. i soon hope to carry a kc roc to add a really good mid range disc for length.

I use just about all of em' depending on the day, I am selective:
Eagle, Valkyrie, XS, XL, SE Teebird, Cheetah,
MRX, Roc, Xpress, Stingray, Aviar Putter.
And some others, I forgot.

Always lookin for constructive criticism, I like to throw hard, usually the average drive is over 300 feet, have a natural hyzer, however can control it occasionally. most of the time I veer back left. Help on purchasing discs, or technique is much appreciated. Thanks

Robert Koernke (robertkjr@provide.net)
Cheetah - 150g - Constant Use - light right turn
Stingray - 179g - Almost never - Roller - Heavy right turn
Reeper - 175g - When I need a heavy extremely overstable disc
(Special Edition) Teebird - 171 - Heavy straight throws
Innova Ram - 149g - Lighter extremely overstable disc
Rhino Putter - 171g - Use for approches, even short drives
Magnet Putter - 179g - Currently putting with this one
Apax Putter - 173g - Old putter, only use for Tomma Hawks.

I miss my paper weight Dragon. I miss my 163 Elite Z-XS. I can't find them that light anymore. I lost them of course.

Jim (jabedan@aol.com)
Drivers: KC Firebird or KC Banshee for upwind, sidearms, and hyzers; KC Teebird or XS Elite for no wind and downwind. Valkyrie DX and beatup XS for Anhyzer. Beatup KC Banshee for tomahawks/thumbers and anhyzer sidearms

Midrange: Stratus for anhyzer and 2 different MRXs for straight and hyzer (MRXs hold up forever, it seems - my oldest is 3 years old and it has settled into a pattern where it flies just about dead straight)

Putter: Rhyno - the only putter for me - rhynos are for aggressive putters only - too overstable for soft putts. Also use rhynos for up shots.

advice for beginners-i have only played 6 months and in that time have realized that all discs in a particular group (ultra long, very long, midrange, etc) do basically the SAME thing. the secret is technique and knowing your discs. more discs than you need just complicates things.

John Wheeler (johnwhee@endries.com)
Primary Drivers: JLS (always long), elite XS (longest if thrown just right), a Z-express, and my old favorite, the X-Clone.

Mid range: My oldest disc, a broken in Viper, always goes where I want it to, Panther - also very predictible, and a Classic Roc for those shorter, straight shots.

Putter: Avair putt and approach, simply the best when you are on. I also will occasionally use the classic Roc on longer putts, and my old Viper when it is really windy and just want to get close.

I sell a few discs to local players and a couple retail locations, so have the opportunity to try out many discs. But in general,I think you should stick to 3-4 drivers, 2-3 mid-range discs, and one type of putter (unless you have a particular disc that always performs on a certain hole, or a disc you play much better with in windy conditions).

Just started again, used to play in the 1980's, wow have the discs changed, we are so lucky. To start:
Driver dog-leg right: Stingray - 174g & 180g
Driver dog-leg left:Cheeta - 151g (My first 150 series, normally I like heavy, but that was then this is now! and I like it, if its not too windy)
D4 Driver - 176g (These are nice disc craft adds some grooves that give you more gri and it seems distance)
Driving pretty straight:
Valkrie - 171g the thing will fly a mile if you throw it correctly, but it was the hardest for me to learn, lots of practice!
Mid-Range:Avair - 160g they are a good constant! Mid range and putting. I really have yet to find a putter I feel comfortable with so I go light without wind and heavy with wind.
My Bag: I have an old beach bag that has a steel handle I can carry it like a tackle box. It is light and can hold 6 discs, a towel and water.

Well, I'm a fairly new player, so this page has been helpful to me. Currently:

Z-XS (163g) - flies forever, indestructible
Z-Xtra (171g)- beautiful long hook once I learned to throw it
Xpress (168g) - love this disc for long anhyzers
Valkyrie (171g) - starting to get worn, changing in stability
Stingray (150 class)
Wolf (170g) - brand new, I think I like it
Shark (??g - found it on the course)
Roc (177g - bought first time I played, too heavy for my taste)
Z-MRV (172g)
Birdie Putter
APX Putter (found it on the course)
Omega Supersoft (LOVE IT, my most used disc, for approach and mid-range putting)

Oh, I also have a Glo #2 Roller. Hate it. Anybody want to trade? :)

Posted on Tuesday, November 06, 2001 at 08:00
Johnny Roundhouse (tmbleon@execpc.com)
#1 disc - 172g CE Valkyrie, Red, most reliable disc
#2 disc - 175g Spider - orange, great short drive and appraoch disc, very controllable
#3 disc - 175g Omega Super Soft putter, orange, no other putter used for 3 years

Also have 170g CE Valkyrie, 171g CE Firebird (the only clear blue I've seen), 171g CE TeeBird (TL), 175g KC Cheetah Fly dyed, 175g Special edition Leopard, a few Rocs, and some others that are used for tomahawks!

One useful thing to keep in the bag is a few lighters and a Black Permanent Sharpie!

AHA! To go in-between my RAM & my Blaze:

1 Innova DX Whippet-"X", 175g, white - awesome disc for D inot headwinds, sidearms, or big, long hyzers.

Karl Nehring (Nehringk@hotmail.com)
After playing a lot this summer and fall I am really starting to learn that for drivers, lighter is better, at least for overweight old guys. Here is what I am now carrying:

Drivers:

150 class Eagles: One beat-up one that I use when there are trees, and a new one that I use in big tailwind situations.

175 Eagle: What I use into strong headwinds.

JLS 149: When I want to go long and straight when there are a lot of trees around (and no headwind!)

Innova Archangel: A 162 that I use when I am trying to go long, and a 174 that I use into moderate headwinds.

Discraft Elite Z XS 170: With my arm, this is an overstable disc that I use on a couple of holes where I need a left curve and there is a likelihood of hitting trees -- not only is it very tough, its bright yellow/green color makes it easy to find.

Innova Valkyrie 158. Not sure whether this or the light Archangel is the longest-flying disc in my bag, but this one sure boogies! I'd love to find a really light Valyrie in CE plastic.

Midrange:

Elite Z MRV 172: Long approaches and my primary driver on course where accuracy is more important than distance.

Aroura MS 174: I use this a lot on short wooded holes, and I also use it for hard anhyzers/rollers.

Putters:

Omega Supersoft 169: Still the best for sticking in the chains, my primary short putter.

DGA GlowFly 171: I use this for longer putts, and I love the way it feels in my hand. I have seen this called a soft putter, but it is in actuality pretty stiff. Does not grip the chains as well as the Omega SS, but I can throw it straighter (and find it in the dark in the woods.)

Innova Aero 174: Long putts/short approaches. I can't quite put into words my decision process for using this or the GlowFly on any particular shot. If they made this disc in a softer plastic, it would probably be my only putter. I love the way it feels in my hand, but it is too stiff to grip the chains the way I would like.

* by "not suck" I mean my drive have been crap the past month, my whole game has been crap ever scince I bought that damn Lightning bag.

Pete (pm574@nyu.edu)
I have 58 discs, and have tried out most innova/discraft discs. The ones I tend to use most, as my throw snap increases and as I get more anhyzer hyzer train, are as follows.

Z Xl 174, 171, 169 - love this one, have loved ever since olden days of yesterlore.
z-xpress- love this one as well, 169 and 171. Perfect.

Approach discs have fluctuated most for me, starting with shark moving to the mrv and and big ole cheetah actually, then coming back through the rocs, finally resting well with the hawk and spider series now, some heavy comet shots for longer curves are invaluable.

For long range putts, the polecat is wonderful, not wind stable, so I shift to the soft magnet and apx. Love that swirl. When there is no widn I wont use anything but an 86 softie. In my opinion there is no truer finesse putter available, I found mine in a tree and have used it solid for hundreds of rounds. an affair to remember.

That's it. Next up is to try the soft rhynos for putting, and a friend recommended a z mrv, I dont like it so far, also dont care for really any lightning discs, but had a 1 slice glow in the dark as my first disc, and it's a nostalgia thing.

Moved to new york, and as the nearest course is Kisco at 1 hour away, I brough only my pgda shark, the z xl, a spider and the 86 softie. I wish I had the xpress, but otherwise I would recommend that set for the rec pro in any situation.
I have also had some good experiences with Rit dye and microwaves, not enough to warp but fly dyes and bleach work wonders. With a couple magnets and a drill you can spin design all your own discs for less.... I cant beat j bird but its fun to try.

Thx

White 175g INNOVA KC TeeBird for LONG straight/left-hooking drives.

Orange 150g INNOVA Dragon for mid-range right-hooking drives or super-long drives.

Purple 160g GATEWAY Demon for mid-range left-hooking drives.

Blue 174g INNOVA Roc for mid-range straight drives and for long set-up shots.

White 172g INNOVA Aviar Putter for short set-up shots and putts.

I like my mixture of discs because they cover basically every situation, long drives, short drives, anhyzers, hyzers, set-ups, straight shots, overstable shots, understable shots, putts... they really work well for me. I can't really think of the next disc I would buy because mine take care of nearly every shot. I used to have a Banshee and it served me well for long overstable drives, so I would consider buying another one of those. Other than that, these 5 discs work fine for me.

josh (nazgul1@swbell.net)
I started playing about three months or so ago and was totally hooked right off. I learned on borrowed discraft xl-s and have stuck with the brand, though I ended up going with the z-xs as my driver. I've just gotten to where i can throw a long straight line drive at about 10ft of alt with it. A few more months and i'll be throwing about 350 instead of 300ft. It took a bad skip on a hole close to a busy street last week and got run over, gotta love the z plastic though, not even a noticeable scratch on it, no difference to how it flies either.

z-xs-- primary driver

ce leopard-- just to experiment with (i've been hooked on buying new discs to try out lately)

z-mrv-- midrange, i tend to overthrow holes under 250 with the xs, this is perfect for them.

stingray-- for any anhyzer turn at all, love the way it curves so beautifully and perfectly to the right, I always know exactly how it'll fly. One of these days I'll start learning to roll it.

innova xd-- any approach shot, it's always dead on straight, half the putts

swirly apx-- the other half of the putts, no reason really, just still getting the feel for the discs.

dugout-- secret weapon, keeps me from taking myself too seriously.

Water and a towel, it's been over 100 degrees for over a month here in Oklahama. The towel is great for when sweat gets in your eyes also.
I figure if I shelled out a few more bucks for the z and ce plastic now, I'll save money in the long run by not turning all my discs into tacos. This philosophy has paid off handsomely for me as I've nailed several trees from point blank and the z plastic is still unscathed.

Can't believe I changed the lineup so soon. Threw the XS in the river last night. Started using a #2 Slice for anhyzer shots. Went back to the Aviar and practiced over the weekend and its back in the bag as primary putter (I ordered a Ching Tank so we'll see how I like that). Taco'd the Valkyrie and now it flies better. Added a 171g KC Pro Teebird and had two great hyzer shots with it today for my best round ever.

I've been playing for two months, love it to death. Averaging +7-+10 for 18, working on lowering that.

Drivers:

Millenium JLS - 169 - Consistently straight, if I throw it incorrectly it still doesn't hurt me much.
Innova T-Bird - 164 - Still working on controlling this.
Innova Leopard - 150 - For some drives where I need an S turn.
Discraft Cyclone - 168 - Old disc, I use it for overstable shots.

Midrange:
Innova ROC - 175 - For most approaches and drives from 125-200 feet.
Innova Stingray - 165 - For anhyzer shots. I shoot lefthanded and use this and the Leopard quite a bit for anhyzer.

Putter - Aviar - 180 - Love it and will buy a bunch of them so I will always have this putter forever!

I have been playing for about 2 1/2 months. Adding the XS greatly increased my driver range. The Z-XS resists all attempts to taco it. My friends and I use them and I have seen them hit trees at full speed at point blank range and be fine.
I use the Cobra and Stratus for midrange (I also use the Stratus for putting - the Aviar goes jello in the air because I suck at putting), and the Stingray for anhyzers.

A few changes from the last time I posted:

Drivers-

162 Z-Xpress
Straight as an arrow, hardly falls off at the end, and reliable, even after hitting trees.

147 Gazelle
Got it at 2001 worlds, got their hotsatmp on it, flies just like the Z-Xpress, but more overstable.

150 Class Dragon
Don't know the exact weight, wasn't printed on the back. For long anheysers and rollers.

171 EXP 1.2
For wind or fade shots, super fast, super reliable.

Specialty Drivers-

Cheetah
found, weight was rubbed off, super beat, really understable. I use it for situations where my only option is to throw a hyzer flight, but where I was\nt the disc to straighten out and fly straight.

172 Xtra
For big hyzers, big S-curves, forehand rollers and thumbers.

170 LS Polaris
Straight line flights either back hand or forehand, neverfalls off, great disc.

Midrange-

166 Spider
Brand new, got it at worlds. Like a beat in roc, if you turn it over a bit, it will fly really straight.

163 #1 Roller
Forehand midrange, great disc.

171 MRX
for midrasnge hyzers or into the wind, like a roc but tougher.

Putt and approach-

171 Wolf
Approaches from 100-40 feet.

169 Soft Rhyno
Anhyser approaches, hardly rolls, dead on accurate.

163 soft Polecat
Wierd disc, cost me $15, but was worth it, putts great, and griipy like a soft aviar.

Valkyrie - drives
Avair - approaches and putts
#4 Driver - good for quick left hooks
#1 Roller - trying to learn how to throw it

I'm trying to learn how to throw the roller disc. I'm also looking to buy some other discs. Does anyone have any advice? I usually play at Jefferson Barracks park in St. Louis, and most holes are only 180-250 feet. What would be a good, straight disc that goes about 180-250 feet? Any advice would be welcomed; e-mail me at johnjunk@famteam.com

One more thing, does anyone know of a website that will compare discs from different brands? I really like the chart that Innova has (speed, fade, high speed turn, low speed turn). If you know of a good site please let me know at johnjunk@famteam.com

Chris West (gusgozinia@yahoo.com)
I have been playing for about a year and started off rocky and frustrated, but I have improved my drives to my longest being over 350ft. I am consistently shooting around +1 to -3 on the courses I play in Kentucky and Atlanta. Always up for a challenge so email me for a 'friendly' match.
I suggest the following courses:
Lenora Park (Atlanta, GA)
Redan (Atlanta, GA)
Shilito Park (Lexington, KY)
Georgetown College (Georgetown, KY)
Henry Jackson Park (Danville, KY)
Let me know about any others that people think are worth the trip!!!

Valkyrie (long driver; still experimenting with angles)
Stingray (my consistent driver for going right at the target)
Cheetah (first disc, very worn, but dependable for lond approaches)
Aurora MS (first approach disc, similar to a 'lid' frisbee, very true flying disc)
Roc ("go for the hole" aggresive midrange from deep)
Omega Supersoft Putter (can't miss from 20ft and in, grab the chains and rest in the basket, perfect putter; personally)

Steve (smbrewman@msn.com)
I've been playing for a couple years now and have collected about 13 discs. I find that if I take just three or four discs out with me I throw better. I shoot -4 to -8 and my favorite combination is:

Gazelle-(long, fast, and straight)
Comet-(can really control this disc-especially to the right)
Aviar-(good feel-predictable)

rocuf (joverocker@triad.rr.com)
I have been playing for about 4 years, started in florida then continued after we moved to NC. My bag is mostly 170-175g plastic, with a few 160's.
KC Plastic- Cheetah, Gazelle, Whippet, Roc, Aviar
Candy Plastic- Teebird, Leopard
Discraft - x2, xl, xs, apx
Innova - XD, spider, eagle, valkrie, shark, cobra & assoriated beat up plastic
Misc - #2 slice, magnet, soft magnet, blowfly

I have had the KC since it came out and love the feel and durability. The newer Candy plastic just doesn't grip well for me when my hands get sweaty. My favorite driver is probably the gazelle, I can turnit over, s-curve or go strait at the pin. Sort range nothing beats a Roc, but the new spider is pretty sweet, smaller diameter roc basically. Love the cheetah for loong distance rollers and the XD is the best approach disc that I have had. Got 10 apx's just to practice putting with.
I think everyone ought to buy 2 lighter weight drivers and see how much futher you can drive when you release a light disc smoothly.

I am only 13 years old, and I played my first round ever last week. I have only played about 5 rounds cince then. I have got a few discs though. Driver- Firebird 170g: ultra long distance mostly chosen for long drives. Comet 170g: Great for your average drive down the fairway.Mid-Long Range- Cobra 179g: great for those obsicals where you need a good left turn., Xd 168g (I found this one) I dont use it very often i just have it.,(I am getting the Hawk and the Morray.) Putters-Rattler: I like it. (I want to get a Magnet.)

LB Whaples (lwhaples@eastbay.com)
I've noticed alot of people carry alot of discs. I've been playing for 5 years and have a repitiore of 5 discs. A cyclone, for my primary driver..nice glide and predictable overstability. 2nd, a Lightning #1 Driver, very straight and predictable... if you can throw at high speeds. 3rd, a Lightning #2 slice. Easy control for right handers who want to throw understable shots (curve to the right). 4th, a XD, my most universal disk. It's not much of a driver actually, but it offers a controllable approach/putt. Nice stability and controllable hyzer. 5th and finally, a Lightning upshot for putting. Takes some getting used to, but grabs the chains well.

I'm looking for a new driver.. Probbaly a discraft Z series. I'm also looking at a new putter for wet conditions, like a soft magnet.

Joey Wright (joeywright@yahoo.com)
I started playing on 4th of July weekend, and immediately became addicted to the sport. I play everyday, most days 2x and since I live up in Alaska, there is only one place to throw, for now. I bought a bunch of discs because I am hooked like a big fish. Right now, my bag has 19 discs

T-Bird 173- Long driver slightly overstable at the end. Awesome
#1 Driver 175- Long, straight, and slightly understable
Millenium JLS 175- Pye dyed and nice. Slightly overstable
#1 Prostyle Driver 173- ever so slightly overstable. Good flyer
#2 Flyer 178- Favorite long distance straight flyer. It's big
#2 Flyer 173- Comfortable disc, but not as good as the other.
#1 Roller 175- Has my only 2 aces to its credit, predictable.
#3 Driver 175- Straight as an arrow and comfortable to throw.
Shark 177- Stable flyer, but it's a midrange flyer
Polaris LS 174- Similar to the JLS, but easy to control.
Aurora MS 176- Midrange and predictable. Smooth roller & putter
#2 Driver 174- Overstable and a good flyer. easy to learn
#1 Flyer 177- Slightly overstable. Not a favorite disc, yet.
#1 Flyer 170- Same as above, better for approach, no big throws
#4 Driver 175- Needs a lot of snap to fly well or else big turns
Valkyrie 175- Am learning to like this disc, but not jived, yet
#2 Hyzer 175- Total pain to throw, but I like this disc.
Rubber Putter 170- Flies straight and is predictable.
Firebird 172- Only like this disc on one hole, pain in the a**

Funny, for a beginner, I have a lot of the heavier discs. I have already won a tournament. I am now shooting between -2 to -5 every round.

got the new "spider" from innova. am a roc/shark/gator fan, and this one is very close to the gator. can't tell any major differences really, but both discs are new. would say if you think roc is too big you'll dig the spider. anyone else got ahold of this thing yet? proto print, no animal stamps yet, but coming.

J Smerdon (smerdon@engr.orst.edu)
I love the new plastic in CE and Z. gets great bounces and rolls
and takes a tank to beat it up.

CE Leopard - 300+ great for a controlled turnover
CE Firebird - 300+ very hard left but fast
CE Valkyrie - 300+ great for S's less stable than FB CE
Xpress Z - great for turnover when need to go hard right. fast
XS Z - fast and straight
Firebird KC - 300+ favorite disk for sidearm, straighter than CE
Eagle KC - 300+ not as much distance as FB but better glide
XS - good for S curve for sidearm or backhand
Firebird - 300+ great for S curves, not as stable as KC and CE
Valkyrie - 300+ still favorite turnover disc

Aviar Putter - Is there a better one? No way.

Nocky (nocky@mac.com)
Discraft XL light blue, 172g -Best driver in the world. Some people say it's hard to control, but as a forehand driver it rules! I even use it as an approach! :)
Discraft X2 white, 174g - Wonderful for long sharp left turns!
Millenium JLS Yellow 1:3, 172g -Nice straight driver but sometimes "moody", can flip to the right...
Discraft APX -Best putter so far...
Innova soft Rhyno -Good "sticky" putter but I'm having difficulties getting the right distance...
Dogdiscs:
Discraft Magnet... it says "Chain seeking device" on it, but it should say "Chain repelling device"!
Innova Leopard - Awful "dead" plastic and bad grip.
K C Roc -Is this a golfdisc?? very uncomfortable grip and plastic that feels like a fifties toy... the dog would probably bite his teeth out! :)

Michelle Vetter (ishy@ishy.ws)
Jaguar 191 (drive&approach) I love this disc so much because it flies straight and I can control the distance both long and short even though I have a pretty weak arm. I have gotten several friends hooked on them.

Aviar 167 This is my current putter, and I like it pretty well, although it's getting beat up, so I just ordered a new one a little bit lighter.

2-3 Cheetah 150s I lend these out to my friends who come play with me and don't have discs yet.

2 Shark 150s (same reasons as above)

Valkyrie 150 pretty good driver

I had more discs but I have given several away to friends recently....

Aaron Jennen (UALawStudent@aol.com)
I have been throwing for about two years now and have gone through dozens of discs. I now play with four discs, and shoot par to four under. Five under is my best.

Innova Firebird - 173, my absolute favorite driver, flys low and fast with a great hyzer, I can throw this one 350+ feet

Millineum JLS 1.5 - 175, can't get the distance I get with the Firebird, but flys straight time and time again, doesn't hold shape well

Innova Whippet - ?, found this one in a pond with no name and can't read the weight, use this one for hammer tosses

Innova Birdie - 175, I love the "Thumbtrac" and can hit this from 20 feet, doesn't roll to far on bonks and great for approaches

*Innova Eagle - 174, love this driver, held its shape and had a great hyzer, lost on hole one at Gulley Park, Fayetteville, AR

Karl Nehring (nehringk@my-deja.com)
I have been playing a lot lately, mnostly at the Hambrick Memorial course in Columbus, OH; on a recent business trip I was able to get in a couple of rounds at Morley Field in San Diego.

In my bag:

Discraft Elite Z XS (170) -- my most used driver.

Innova CE Teebird (167) -- next most used.

Innova Eagle (149) -- long-flying and dependable with a tailwind

Innova Dragon (149) -- This is being pushed as a good disk for shorter throwers, but although my typical drives are 240-275 feet, 300 when things click just right, I find the Dragon a frustrating disk becasue of its tendency to turn over. I would think the 150 class Eagle is a much more recommendable driver. Another gripe about the Dragon -- although the plastic looks tough, it seems to bang up pretty easily. (To be fair, it is not premium-priced.) I will have to practice more with this thing. Maybe I will change my tune.

Innova Leopard (171) -- great for long holes with a right curve.

Millennium JLS (149) -- Nice disk, but just sitting in my bag because I ususally go for the Eagle with a tailwind.

Millennium MS Aurora (174) -- My turnover/roller disk.

Discraft Elite Z MRV (171) -- Use for long approaches and drives in the woods where control is more important than distance.

Millennium Omega Supersoft (169) -- My primary putter. I've tried several others, but this one just feels the best in my hand.

Millennium Omega AP (171) -- long putts/short approaches. Half the time I loan it to a buddy who tends to forget to bring his own putter with him.

Innova Rhyno (175) -- I'm not sure why I carry this thing, as I hardly ever use it. (Maybe this is the one I should loan to my buddy, but I think he would rather putt with his driver than throw this thing...)

Innova Birdie (174) -- One of these things was my first putter. I gave it to my son after using the Omega Supersoft. A few days ago, I bought another one. I think I am getting putter paranoia!

Darin (bdarin2@qwest.net)
#1 Driver - 174 - Yellow - Primary Driver. A tad unpredictable; but a hella distance.
MRV - -170 - Baby Blue - Midrange. Love it. Very straight, perfect edge. I find myself using it as a driver often.
Birdie - Purple- The only putter I've ever used, so I don't know if it sucks or not. It seems to work for me.
Gazelle - Blue - Just found it at Bryant Lake Park near Minneapolis. It has a funky sticker on the bottom of it; but I won't remove it because this disc is fast becoming my favorite. Very stable. It seems light, like possibly 164. Thanks, whoever lost it.
#1 Helix - Yellow. Can't get the "S-curve" to happen. I'm very unimpressed with this disc. Perhaps it's too heave. I got the 174 because I wanted to crank it.
Hawk - White - Just got it, seems ok.
XL - Blue - Too overstable. It goes as far left as it does forward & I'm about to toss it into a lake for some unsuspecting sucker to pay $4 for it from some jackass in rubber boots.
Cyclone - Tie-die. Bought it from some kid it rubber boots at Plymouth Creek for $4. Can't complain. Doesn't drive as far as I would have wanted; but it has a good feel.

Never hit the course without a can of Deep-woods OFF (Minnesota is brutal without it)

that local kid (rubur_ducky@hotmail.com)
I've been playing for about two months, I shoot par (+/- a few) on every course I have played, and my drives are about 300ft on the avg. although a couple have reached about 350ft.

My Discs:
(all my discs are light/bright easily spotted Innova discs [i'm a very loyal customer])

My Drivers:
(all of which are 175 KC Tyedye, never weigh more never weigh less...psychological I guess ; i prefer the KC plastic because it is more durable and has a better feel ; the tyedye is so i can easily distiguish my drivers from my oher discs...i also like the original look [like Tiger Woods and his tiger driver cover i suppose])

1 - KC EAGLE 175g tyedye (my first driver, my beast of burden. thrown when i don't have confidence to throw my other discs...i can get it to do pretty much anything)

2 - KC BANSHEE 175g tyedye (moderate wind, left turning drives, big hyzers)

3 - KC TEEBIRD 175g tyedye (low ceiling, when i need extra carry, when i need my most accurate throw)

4 - KC CHEETAH 175g tyedye (very similar to eagle only slower, used on shorter holes, for accuracy...i can roll it well on a good day)

Midrange/Approach:
(weights depend on disc's purpose)

1 - WHIPPET-X 175g (driver for the i-shouldn't-be-playing-today wind and disc when i need the biggest hyzers)

2 - STINGRAY 180g (S-curves all-purpose driver, used for my anhyzer drives and approaches...my primary roller [180g for nice carry and extra power on rollers])

3 - KC ROC 180g (my first-ever disc...short drives, any approaches...the cornerstone of my bag, i can hit any type of shot with this--the disc i'd carry if i were allowed only one [180g because i have better accuracy with a heavier disc])

4 - KC GAZELLE 168g (i found this in a swamp hazard while helping a friend search for his disc...slightly caved in and softened due to prolonged exposure to water--almost like an aviar putter or soft rhyno--good for sticking an upshot and long-range windy putting

Putters:

1 - KC AVIAR 172g (for touch-shots, general soft appoaches--my 'money' putter...if i can hit the putt, it will be with this disc)

2 - AERO 175g (secondary putter, goodin wind, for short approaches and lay-ups, very accurate...if i'm missing with my aviar, i'm using my aero)

S. Brown (phliq@aol.com)
I use an omega supersoft putter, my main driver is a 173g xclone, but i have a 177 for shots that require more speed (long, low shots through woods, for example), a 174 Eclipse for an anhyzer, 176 Typhoon for a hyzer, 173 cyclone2 for s-curves. I also carry a 172 comet which is handy for approach shots as it is very stable at low speeds; i keep a couple of cyclones on hand because i enjoy tossing them from time to time.

My best finds are: an omega driver, a jls, kc firebird (tiedyed), and a brand new yellow translucent xtra. Fished 'em all.

Aaron Nitz (anitz@waw.misd.net)
XS (175-all discs I own are 173-175)maximum distance and great control. I throw it 400 consistent.
Blaze 325-375 foot hyzers (319 foot ace with this one)
Demon (yes, more gateways plastic)250-300 foot sharp hyzers rocs, rocs and more rocs I carry 3-4 at all times from brand new to one that looks like it's been through a paper shredder. Almost any drive from 240-325 (which includes about 60% of the worlds holes) I love rocs.
Softie magnet scratched up, beat up, bent, but it grabs chains

MICAH ()
Note: new plastic is destrucable.

Pigs-
CE Firebird 174; long controlled hyzer
KC Pro WhippetX 174; must have! it's a Ram with a thicker edge and smaller diameter. two skip aces & 1 knife ace.

arrows and helix-
SE Teebird TL 172; straight disc with slow hyzer fall off, great tailwind disc.
CE Eagle 172; this disc was great, it's less stable now and has a diferent use as a result. I got this disc a month before I got the Teebird, same weight and everything. I've missed mandos with this disc now. it won't even go straight. Now it's a tail wind disc all day.

EXPs
I love EXPs! They have a fuunction at every stage of their life.
EXP 1.5 175; a little beat up, monster annie crush. If there's a strong tailwind, it could easily go 450-500ft.
EXP 1.3 171; toast, beat up so bad your grandma could turn it over. roller or pancake use only.

Mid-range
SE Super Roc 180; never leave home without it. So predictable and can be skipped with control.
SE Super Roc 176; older and wiser than the previous listed disc. ie:less stable and used sparingly, but with good results.
Comet 178; that's right baby, the comet. Ron Russell must be doing something right, so I tried it. I've carried it ever since. Learn and love it, or don't and watch others having that smooth glide, characteristic of the Comet. Throws like a beach frisbee.

Putter
Aviar P&A 175; best putter around. I can't wait to see the CE version.

Anyway, that's what I throw. Sometimes they work and sometimes I don't.

cyclone 2
gazelle

then for holes that curves right i used my stingray

and for approaching i used my raven

Jon (flacco90@aol.com)
MAIN DISCS: 150 Leopard(for distance and very slow fade)
175 Shark(for anything! i love this disc!)
175 Aviar(for shorter shots, it's been good for
longer approach shots)

also in my bag is the 146 JLS driver by millenium, (straight as hell, but just can't give me the distance that the leopard does)
166 Stingray(which i love for right curves) i recently bought the Viper for left curves(i hate it! STRONG left turn, i might need it someday though) i also like my 175 Polecat(extremely straight approaches!)

Scott Stephens (sfgascott@yahoo.com)
I carry (2) elite xtra discs (1 light & 1 heavy),175 xtreme,175 "z" mrv, se Leopard for long right turns, and a few others, I use a "fly dye" apx 175 for my putter because it holds a line whichever way you tilt it (sweet), oh, and a xs for distance. I live in okc, so we have a lot of wind here. Got my first ace on hole 3 at Will Rogers on 05/03/01 with my "z" mrv. It skipped right in.

Roman Bednarek (roman@twcny.rr.com)
175g KC Teebird- Headwind driver - (CE Firebird coming soon)
174g SE TL Teebird-straight driver (will soon add CE TL Teebird)
174g SE T Teebird(worn)-Understable driver
--------I love the predictability and distance of the Teebirds--
170g CE Eagle---Great for long drives that require more hook at the end to get around obstacles or anhyzer S-curves...
175g KC Eagle--- ...or long skip aces or shorter skip approaches.
168g CE Valkyrie---Very fast and long, still learning how to throw it, not as consistent as the Teebird.
173g HD Hawk---very straight midrange great for tunnel shots.
173g SE Super Roc----hyzer midrange
175g Stratus(very worn)-turnover midrange
175g Aviar Putter

As you can see, I've got an obsession with drivers, but the HD Hawk and the Teebirds are discs that I definitely cannot do without. They are the most accurate discs that I throw. I've got a friend that only uses an Aviar putter, a HD Hawk, and two SE T Teebirds (one worn, one new.)

I own my own Innova Disc Dealership, so I can throw anything I want. Note the use of Champion Plastic.....awesome distance......awesome durability.

less is more

wolf-174-red: massive fade when it slows, but long and straight as an arrow when it's cranked.
aviar-170-grey: I use it alot because it will float forever and always turn where (and when) I want it to...and it's my putter.

that's it. I don't own a bag because, well, I only have two discs. I used to also have a 174 panther, but a rougue throw landed that one in the middle of the lake. ironically, my game has greatly improved since I lost the panther.

I left my post on here a little while back and some things have changed in my bag that I thought I would share. I've replaced half of my bag with all the new plastic that has recently hit the market. And I have to tell you that the extra money you will spend for them is well worth it. The main course I play on is a heavily wooded course here in N.C. , with every hole consisting of some type of tree cover. For all the trees I've hit with these new discs, everyone of them is still like they are brand new. Try the new championship plastic from Innova and the new "Z" series from Discraft and I assure you that you'll be happy with thier perfomance and durability. Plus they all look hot in the new candy plastic.
New Disc
CE valkyrie - 171 - this disc flies forever and straight with a slight left fade at the end
CE eagle - 170 - same as the valkyrie with more left fade - these disc and the firebird and teebird are all hard to turn over - good disc for hyzers and big arms
Z XS - 164 - flies straight and long with little fade - this is by far my longest driver and has even helped me add 30 feet over my old favorite, the regular XS
Z Express - 171 - another long straight flyer with hardly any fade at the end
Z MRV - 172 - great midrange driver - very similar flight characterisitics to innova's roc
Special edition Super Roc - 175 - striaght , very hard to turnover and predictable, this replaced my very worn roc and has hit the greatest number of trees with no signs of wear at all

my two primary drivers
150 class banshee for my two finger sidearm shot for anything to the right, currently experimenting with an 168 xtreme.
for my backhand drives i use a 174 ce teebird, it took a while but i think im starting to get a hold of it.
for midrange i use a 170 roc beat to shit but i love it.
also an 176 wolf .
and i putt with an 86 softie

Robbie Cooper (scoop@austin.rr.com)
Primary Driver: 170g Polaris LS (red): Long and accurate. But more importantly, I can make this disc turn left, right, or long and straight.
Primary Approach: 174g Ching Sniper (red): very stable and very straight. Plus, I can get great distance if needed.
Putter: Aviar Softy (yellow): great for any shot within 250 ft.

Never, ever, hit the course without an extra towel. Nothing worse than wet disc or hands.

You'll never be done buying discs!! Have you checked out all the cool new plastic that's come out?
Hhmmm...15 years....LOT'S of plastic....0 wins...anyone really want to know???

The Island Bag...
2 - matched red Firebirds (one is more stable then the other)
1 - orange "slightly beat" Mace Man TEE Bird - goes far.
1 - White DGA Terminator X-Clone - Great heavy wind disc!
1 - Magenta Roc....old....buttery....my last one.
1 - Magenta Sting Ray....see Roc.
1 - new yellow Roc (How come I lose more Roc's then all my other drivers put together)?
1 - Yellow Mace Man Avair.
1 - Orange - Old, high doomed original Birdie.

All are in the 170 - 174 gram weight class. A tired old body keeps me from carrying too many discs.
I have recently bought some of the new stuff from both Innova & Discraft so there could be some changes in store...
Ace race this Sunday @ Bronte Creek - y'all come out now, ya hear. Peace - Alex

168 SE Teebird / straight and left at end, throw this one far

171 JK Avair X / great putter
170 SE Rhyno / just got it, love the feel

If you look at last year's list on Dec 5, you'll see an entry by someone new to the game - Me! I'm hooked. I go every day at lunch. Yes, I've played in the rain, snow, and wind. Here's what I carry :

Eagle 172 - SWEET disc! Awesome driver. Stays in the bag on windy days, though

Gazelle 169 - long drives, good in wind, goes where I tell it

MRX 170 - I use this only when I need to bank the crap out of a shot (like on the rare occasion when the gazelle doesn't go where I tell it and I end up behind a forest of trees)

Stingray 168 - This one's new and I'm not sure what to think of it yet. Got it for rights, but I can get better rights out of my gazelle.

Aero 168 - STRAIGHT! Short drives and approaches

Polecat 171 - putts (I hit a 120' shot with this the other day just goofy around!) sticks well.

And finally (go back and read my Dec 5, 2000 entry ):
Old Beat-Up Viper - what a pig of a disc! This thing looks so bad. Best right disc I've ever thrown. Still the best putter I have on real windy days. Great tomahawk! I've also used it to scare a stray dog away. I don't dare retire it.

Other: Bandaids and tape (for the days when 36 holes aren't enough!), empty beer cans that I pick up along the way, snacks (since I usually play on my lunch hour). See you at Cottonwood!

SBD DAUNTLESS (awww yeah! its an old version of a current lightning hookshot and its wicked good.)

#2 SLICE (this little number gets me where i need to be, humble mumble, but throw it the wrong way and your in trouble.)

#1 HELIX (when thrown correctly this jombee will go farther than any other disc its size, at least thats my opinion.)

#3 DRIVER (honestly, i dont throw the thing much, but apparently if you have a lot of discs people will think your either a pro or a clown, and im niether "so there fools.")

SBD DAUNTLESS (hey, its so damn good i needed two!.)

INNOVA COBRA (he`s my left hand man. Old king cobra has gotten me out of many a tight spot with a good lie.)hahaha NOT FUNNY

F6 HELLCAT (along the same lines as the dauntless i welcome the hellcat to my arsenal, but have not mastered it yet.)

ATTENTION!!!! to my fellow dgolfers around the world i strongly urge you to get crazy out there. loud grunts make for better tosses, and colorful costumes can spice up an otherwise drab course.dont be shy friends, REJOICE!!

if anyone has any old lightning fighter plane discs they dont want or need, email me and get paid. that is all

Hard to belive it's been 10 years since I started playing. 10 years, 2 stolen bags full of discs and a forest of hit trees. This is what I now throw.
Drivers:
CE Valkyrie - 172 - love the way these fly
SE Leopard - 170 - predictable and straight
SE Teebird - 171 - long and straight with a left fade at the end
Valkyrie - 174 - extremely worn, know where this is going every time
XL - 172 - another long straight flyer
XS - 170 - see above and add another 30 feet
3 cyclones - 165-175 - first is an old one, the hard plastic - I learned how to throw with this one, the other two are new and they're great discs, just not as good as the original
Midrange:
2 Cobra's - 169-174 - for that straight to the pole aproach
Roc - 172 - probally the best mid range disc ec=ver made
Panther - 171 - when i need to fade right
Cheetah - 173 - when i need to fade left
Rollers:
Eagle - 175 - extremely worn, easy to turn it over
Barracuda - 185 - they don't make this anymore and it's a shame
beacuse this disc will roll for days
Putters:
Aviar - 165 - light wind
Apx Swirl - 175 - stronger wind
Glad we're not doing what's in the garage on the shelf lists because I would be typing for awhile.
If you find something that works for you, stick with it.
In the words of Mark Williams, the guy who taught me to play
" damn, where did that tree come from?"

I don't know why anyone would care but,
I carry 2 X2s 2 XLs (one is pretty stable) 3 LSs 2 EXPs 3 Valkarie (I didn't spell it right) two are ce plastic
I carry a mrx, three auroras (ms) a roc and a beat up LS and kc pro gazelle for rollers. Supersoft putter. I think when you pack a bag it is better to limit the kinds of discs and just get more than one. I carry a lot of disc (25+ way too many) but there are really only about seven different kinds. I think it is the way to go. Also I got the huge lightening bag for only 39.99. I think it is a pretty awesome deal considering other bags that are similar run between 70-100 dollars. have fun

Eagle (175) - Great long-flying driver, excellent control factor. Turning over much more now that it's older.

Aviar (160?) - The weight, the feel, it's all great. The "solidity" feel of this disc lets me use it for more midranges than putts, which most people use it for, but I love this disc.

Omega (160) - The tacky feel of this disc really lets me get a good grip, and this is my #1 putter except under highly windy conditions, when I prefer the Aviar again.

Wham-O disc (150) - The wham-o all-around disc is great for putting, especially when you want a light disc... not recommended with much wind.
Cyclone (170) - It's the *cyclone*... 'nuff said. Still pretty new, trying to break it in more.
Stingray (166) - The stringray mold I have now feels much different than my old one I lost to a river, but that may be because I haven't been able to beat it up enough yet. Still a great anhyzer disc, but admittedly with THIS disc I try and avoid using it unless I have room for error on my throw ;)
Pegasus (170) - I can't even find docs on the Pegasus anymore, it's a found disc that was my first ever and I still love using it. The small diameter makes it easy to handle and it loves a good headwind on drives, also quite handy for midranges in the woods when its low speed will help me get an arcing dropshot for precise layups to the pin around obstacles.

I'm a minimalist, but this bag has been working quite well for me lately. With the warmer times just ahead I'm hoping to test out some new discs and see what else can go in my bag :)

The DGA Blowfly 2 is a great little disc with some unusual characteristics: It floats, it happily bounces off trees (it's seemingly indestructible), and it sticks to the ground on an upshot on a windy day (no dangerous skips). This disc is made of extremely soft rubber; it is not a slight variation on the same old theme. I always have this one with me.

I also wanted to report that I've been getting good distance with 150 class drivers, especially my JLS.

Karl Nehring (nehringk@my-deja.com)
I've been playing for several months and still have LOTS of improving to do. I've been playing with the following discs:

Polaris LS (about 172): Sometimes I get a nice S curve, other times too much fade. But when I go back to the Shark, although I get more control, I get less distance, so I stick with the longer drivers and try to learn better form. This goes contrary to most advice I have seen...

Polaris JLS: (172) It was so pretty I could not pass it up. Still struggling to control it.

Viper (171): I've been leaving htis one in the trunk of my car lately. Way too much fade. I will pull it back out one of these days when my form gets better.

Shark: My all-purpose disc. It is getting pretty beat up. That leads me to my next disc...

Millennium MS Aurora (174): Just purchased this last night to replace my Shark. Have not yet thrown it.

MRX (169): This is a beat-up tie-dye disk that somebody gave me when I first started playing. There are a couple of short wooded holes at the little course I play where this disk works perfect, and if I whack a tree, I don't worry about it.

Aviar Birdie putter: I like the way it dies at the end of its flight, but I can't quite get the same confidence with it that I do with the Omega. I use it for longer putts, the Omega for shorter.

Omega Supersoft putter: This thing feels just right in my hand, and gives me the most confidence on shorter putts.

One thing I have noted is that the Millennium disks truly are more durable and have a great feel to them. I find this worth the slight extra money that they cost. I am looking forward to throwing the MS Aroura if it ever stops raining here in central Ohio...

Roc- I have three that I use, If I had only one disc this would be it

Aviar- 163 grams it doesn't look fancy but it works

On the Bag: Golf Pack shoulder straps get all my plastic (and a six pack on ice) anywhere with the utmost comfort.

Dan Doyle (discgolf@warwick.net)
Primary driver: red JLS 170 grams
Approach: blue Gopher 184 grams
Putter: blue 174 grams Soft Rhyno

OK...I know I'm wierd....There's probably no one else in the
world that would list these 3 discs. I mean who even throws
a Gopher at all? I've been playing Disc Golf since 1974 when
I took up the game at Rutgers, taught by Stork and Flash Eberle.
Because i was predominantly an Ultimate player for 20 years,
when i played Disc Golf i didn't enjoy overstable plastic. And i still haven't mastered anything overstable, so my drivers
have been Cyclones until the JLS came along. If there's a headwind, i'll use a Discraft Extra. I love the Gopher for any shot less than 250 feet. It feels like an Ultimate lid to me and i can get it to fly left, straight, or right with either a backhand or a sidearm, so it's extremely versatile and predictable for me. I've also started using the Soft Rhyno for approach shots, particularly when i want to use a sidearm.
As for putting, i've gone back and forth between the omega
supersoft, the APX, and now the Soft Rhyno. I think any
differences are more psychological than physical or aerodynamic, but i like the Soft Rhyno because it i feel like i can be more aggressive with long putts, knowing that it will die if i'm a little too aggressive. I carry 4 understable discs (stingrays,
stratus, and a DGA #3) that i find very usfeul for mid-range shots that are righty anhyzer. i can release the discs the same as i release a driver and let it turn over predictably.
one day i'll learn how to throw overstable discs....

Putter: Upshot, Omega SS
New discs: Prostyle D-1 (I remembered liking a Lightning #1 Driver when I first started throwing, but it got beat bad (& quick!)on trees. Thought I'd try this new plastic. Only thrown it a few times - appears fairly reliable for low straight line drives.
CE Leopard: Thought I could use in place of Cheetahs for anhyzers. So far I'm not having much luck w/ any of these super-slick CE plastics (have a CE Valkyrie I can't throw for crap).
Hope they improve w/"experience"

I've been playing for several months now and am just starting to really get the hang of what I am doing.

Driver: Polaris LS (easier to control and greater distance than the Viper I had been using)

Approach: Shark (just feels good to the hand)

Putter: Omega Supersoft (still getting used to it, but seems easier to throw than the Birdie that I had been using).

I am playing mostly at a short course that is fairly open. I knwo that when I play more challenging course, I will need a few more disks. I must say this is s really fun hobby, and I am having a blast! I wish I had discovered this sport earlier...

There seem to be a lot of new players out there, and this is absolutley great. When I first started, The disc I was using (a Banshee) wasn't well suited to me at all. I think I've compiled a list of really good discs for beginers since then.

A Cheetah-Easy to control, especially with less speed

A Roc-Great all-around disc for long to midrange shots

An Aviar-good putter, fairly easy to control

Along with these there are discs like the Gazelle, The Polecat, the Wolf, an others. I'd love to have additions (or subtractions) from my list, so post away!!

PS-In my opinion, all these discs should be somewhere in the 160-167 range.
